It’s been a long time coming but AutoCAD WS for Android is finally available for download from the Android Market.

Now anyone with a phone or tablet running Android 2.1 or higher can enjoy the mobile CAD experience that AutoCAD WS brings. We’ve brought all the functionality over from the iOS version and we’re looking forward to ebmbracing a whole new community of AutoCAD users.

AutoCAD WS for Android is ready to use right now in nine languages including English, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. We’d love to hear from you as soon as you have it installed.

This important release expands AutoCAD WS with localization of both the web and mobile app into eight languages, as well as comprehensive support for layouts.

Autodesk Vault - Multi Issue Hotfix

1. Copy Design updates and performance improvements.
   1. Performance improvement when switching to 'reuse all' or 'copy all' on large assemblies.
   2. Performance improvement when performing Copy Design in a folder with a large number of files.
   3. Circular references causing multiple issues. Copy Design is now prevented where circular references are present.
   4. Copy Design of AutoCAD Electrical projects would cause the application to become unresponsive.
2. File name sharing on rename resulted in sequential file names instead if preserving the same name between IDW and parts or assemblies.
3. Checking out a file resulted in the 'Checked In' date and time to be '1/1/0001 12:00 AM' instead of blank in the client.

Inventor View and thumbnails

One of the uses of the Inventor View product is to view the thumbnails of Inventor files in Windows Explorer without having to install the full Inventor product on the machine.

With Inventor View 2011 there is a small hiccup in this scenario. And here is a neat little trick to avoid that hiccup.

When you only install Inventor View 2011 on a machine, initially you won't see the thumbnails.

Unlike Inventor View 2010, Inventor View 2011 doesn’t seem to install the file “Dtdv.exe” which is part of the Design Assistant functionality.

The easiest way to get the thumbnails, is to copy the Dtdv.exe file from an existing Inventor 2011 installation and paste it on your Inventor View machine.

After you run dtdv.exe once, the file gets registered correctly and you will get thumbnails from then on.

Are Virtual Environments Supported For Vault 2011

Virtual Environments for Autodesk Vault 2011 (or later) are now supported.

It is recommended that you allocate the minimum or higher system requirements when running Autodesk Vault 2011 in virtual environments. As virtual environments could cause unexpected consequences Autodesk reserves the right to ask that any customer reported problems be reproduced on a physical machine outside the VMware environment. Autodesk Vault 2011 was tested on VMware ESXi version 4.0.0 and VMware Workstation version 6.5.2.

The Current File Is Not The Latest Version???

When working in Inventor and switching between multiple files within the same assembly you can in one particular scenario, encounter a message such as this ...

"A later version of this file has been saved by . Saving the file would overwrite changes, which is not allowed. If you wish to preserve your changes, use the Save Copy As command."

This happens because at some stage you performed an "Open From Vault" and chose to overwrite the local files when this message appeared.

(File 'path\filename' is checked out to you. Are you sure you want to overwrite it with data from the Vault?)

You can avoid this by changing the Vault Prompt "Get(Download)" File '{0}' is checked out to you. Are you sure you want to overwrite it with data from the Vault?

Change the Response from the Default "Yes", and Frequency "Always Prompt" to No, and "Never Prompt"

AutoCAD 2011 Update 1.1

This is a re-release of Update 1 for AutoCAD 2011. After Update 1 was originally released, we discovered an issue when conducting certain operations that may cause AutoCAD to shut down. Update 1 was subsequently removed to correct the issue and a hotfix was released for those customers who had already applied Update 1. This release of Update 1.1 includes that fix.
