This Hotfix addresses Multiple issues:
- Reference is still active but no occurrences in the assembly
- Invalid file references inside assembly file
- Inventor rehighlights the entry during typing
- Members of an assembly pattern should show green DOF boxes
- Inventor crash when adding a hole feature
- AssemblyConstraint.EntityTwo returns a proxy object incorrectly when the sub-assembly is in-place edit
- File size increases after manipulating 3D sketch
- View Reps cannot be deleted and generate error when you hover over them in the browser
- OnFileDirty fires for sub-assembly when update top assembly, but the sub-assembly is still not dirty

Microsoft recently published the SP1 for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (Editions Standard, Enterprise, Express).

At this stage SP1 for MS SQL Server 2008 R2 is not supported with Vault Server 2012 until further notice.

Common comment we hear from customers is that Autodesk releases so many Hotfixes, Updates and Solutions that its difficult to keep a track of them all. Its not always easy to navigate through multiple websites trying to find them all.

One possible solution is to allow notifications be delivered to you via RSS feeds. RSS feeds is a standard technology for having news headlines delivered to you rather than you having to search them out.

RSS feeds can be viewed in applications you use every day like Microsoft Outlook.

To set RSS feeds up in Microsoft Outlook you first go to the website that you want to subscribe to, in this case I want to receive notifications about Autodesk Vault and Inventor.

So lets go to the Autodesk Website. (www.autodesk.com)
In the bottom right hand corner is the orange and white RSS icon. Click that.
Under Support Feeds select
"Product Support, Updates & Service Packs"

Select "Autodesk Inventor" and "Autodesk Vault"

Click Create Custom Feed

This generates a URL
Copy the URL,
In Outlook, Under RSS Feeds, Right click and select "Add a new RSS feed"
Paste the copied URL, then click Add

you can click the Advanced button for more options like the feed name or the destination folder and most importantly "Automatically download enclosures for this RSS feed"

If you set it up correctly you will see the latest feeds appear in front of you.

RSS is a technology used by many Autodesk websites and you can also us it for other sites including our popular blogs like "Cracking the Vault", Without a Net and Being Inventive

The ADN Plugin of the Month technology preview allows you to download an add-in for one of our design applications that includes a pre-made working version as well as the source code for the add-in. It is meant to inspire you on-the-fence-about-programming Labs community members into developing your own add-ins. Learn more about them on Autodesk Labs.

Plugin of the Month on Autodesk Labs

The plugin for July is PointLinker for Inventor. This add-in was written by Xiaodong Liang of the Developer Technical Services team.

As noted in the read me:

Inventor can import point data from a Microsoft Excel file, but once the data has been imported, the link with Excel is not retained. If the user then updates the point data in the Excel file, the data must be manually re-imported and the associated model re-constructed. This is a time consuming and inefficient exercise.

The Point Linker for Inventor tool was developed to allow Inventor users to import points from an Excel file and retain a link to that file. The user can import data (as with the existing command), update with new data, or resolve to another Excel file.

The plugin is compatible with Inventor 2009-2012. Please give it a try and let us know what you think at labs.plugins@autodesk.com.

Design Review has this cool feature where you can compare drawings. Through the magic of API programming, Jan Liska from Autodesk Consulting has hooked this functionality to Vault. The tool is called Drawing Compare and it easily lets you compare two drawings or two revisions of a drawing from within Vault.

Length parameter of frame generator beams not updating in R2012

As mentioned in several newsgroup posts, the G_L parameter in frame generator beams in R2012 remains static after modifying a beam. In normal circumstances the G_L parameter contains at any time the cut length of a beam. The length of a beam can change after several different operations (changing the skeleton sketch, doing a trim/extension or a lengthen/shorten operation).
After any of these operations the G_L value in 2012 only shows the initial length and does not change.

Autodesk has published the following hotfix to fix this problem going forward.

However if you have created beams with R2012 before applying the hotfix, these beams will continue to have a static G_L value even after applying the hotfix.In order to completely get out of the woods, you will have to do a one time clean-up of your frame generator assemblies.

The one-time procedure is very simple:
1. Download and unzip this VBA macro to your local drive
2. Open the VBA editor
3. File > Import and insert the file Correct_G_L_parameter.bas into your application project (typically Default.ivb)
4. Open your frame generator assembly
5. Run the macro Correct_G_L_parameter in module Correct_G_L_parameter
6. Save your assembly

Factory Design Suite 2012 Service Pack 1

SP1 for Factory Design Suite 2012 is now available here

In the Readme file you can read that the service pack includes Autodesk Factory Design Utilities for Inventor 2012 SP1 and Autodesk Factory Design Utilities for AutoCAD 2012 SP1. Although SP1 for Inventor 2012 is not yet available, you can go ahead and install Factory Design Suite 2012 SP1 anyway.

The anticipated Inventor and AutoCAD service packs can be installed once they are made available without invalidating the Factory service pack install.

Cannot edit iPart table with Excel in Windows 7 on 64 bit machines

Issue

You select an iPart table in the browser, right-click, Edit via Spreadsheet, but Excel does not open, and Inventor returns control with no error message.
Solution

In order to solve the problem, apply the procedure from the video below that allows Inventor to get the Excel path.

The procedure consists in exporting the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{ 00024500-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} from the Registry Editor.

Open the exported *.reg file using Notepad and remove all Wow6432Node\ in the file.

Save the *.reg file and import the information to the registry.

These software updates enable Vault functionality for use within Inventor LT Suites 2012 and AutoCAD LT 2012. In order for Inventor LT Suites 2012 and AutoCAD LT 2012 users to connect to a Vault Workgroup 2012, Vault Collaboration 2012 or Vault Professional 2012 server, these updates must be installed.

These updates will not work in conjunction with the base version of the Vault server/client. A prerequisite is that Vault Workgroup 2012 or Vault Collaboration 2012 or Vault Professional 2012 client already is installed on the same computer as Inventor LT Suites 2012 or AutoCAD LT 2012.

Wrong Product Key

You have downloaded your product from the Subscription Center, but, when you enter the product key you see it is marked with a red cross.

In general this happens, if you have downloaded the wrong product from the Subscription Center.

There is an easy way to find out the the associated product key for the product you have downloaded.
1. Navigate to the location of the setup.exe file for your Autodesk product.
2. In that folder, look for a file named MID.txt, MID01.txt, MID02.txt or some variation on that name.
3. Open this file in notepad and verify that the product name is what you expected it to be.
4. The first five characters of the part number should also be the product key for that product.

Example:

MID: Autodesk_Design_Suite_Ultimate_2012_64bit_SWL_ENU_C009_EXE1
Product Name: Autodesk Design Suite Ultimate 2012
Platform: Windows XP/Vista/Win7
Media: ESD
Part Number: 769D1-05Y001-P503E, 769D1-05Y001-P504E

We recommend verifying the product name because sometimes customers who download their Autodesk software inadvertently download the wrong product and are then confused when the product key does not work as expected.

Copy Design updates and performance improvements.
1. Performance improvement when switching to 'reuse all' or 'copy all' on large assemblies.
2. Performance improvement when performing Copy Design in a folder with a large number of files.
3. Circular references causing multiple issues. Copy Design is now prevented where circular references are present.
4. Copy Design of AutoCAD Electrical projects would cause the application to become unresponsive.
File name sharing on rename resulted in sequential file names instead if preserving the same name between IDW and parts or assemblies.
Checking out a file resulted in the 'Checked In' date and time to be '1/1/0001 12:00 AM' instead of blank in the client.

Inventor View and thumbnails

One of the uses of the Inventor View product is to view the thumbnails of Inventor files in Windows Explorer without having to install the full Inventor product on the machine.

With Inventor View 2011 there is a small hiccup in this scenario. And here is a neat little trick to avoid that hiccup.

When you only install Inventor View 2011 on a machine, initially you won't see the thumbnails.

Unlike Inventor View 2010, Inventor View 2011 doesn’t seem to install the file “Dtdv.exe” which is part of the Design Assistant functionality.

The easiest way to get the thumbnails, is to copy the Dtdv.exe file from an existing Inventor 2011 installation and paste it on your Inventor View machine.

After you run dtdv.exe once, the file gets registered correctly and you will get thumbnails from then on.

When working in Inventor and switching between multiple files within the same assembly you can in one particular scenario, encounter a message such as this ...

"A later version of this file has been saved by . Saving the file would overwrite changes, which is not allowed. If you wish to preserve your changes, use the Save Copy As command."

This happens because at some stage you performed an "Open From Vault" and chose to overwrite the local files when this message appeared.

(File 'path\filename' is checked out to you. Are you sure you want to overwrite it with data from the Vault?)

You can avoid this by changing the Vault Prompt "Get(Download)" File '{0}' is checked out to you. Are you sure you want to overwrite it with data from the Vault?

Change the Response from the Default "Yes", and Frequency "Always Prompt" to No, and "Never Prompt"

Plug-In of the Month – Feature Manager

A new plug-in of the month has just been posted at Autodesk Labs. This one is called Feature Manager. What it does is transfer assembly features down into the parts they affect.

Philippe Leefsma, one of the engineers that supports members of the Autodesk Developer Network (ADN) wrote this one. Philippe has put a lot of thought and effort into this application. Printing IDW with embedded bitmap will cause a crash

There is currently an issue with printing IDW's when the Titleblock has a bitmap logo embedded. There is also an issue saving the IDW to a AutoCAD DWG. Development have fixed the issue and the fix is included in Inventor 2011 SP1 and will be available shortly. I will announce the release as soon as the download is available.

Migration of a 2010 base vault (that contains property groups) to a 2011 base vault results in User Defined Properties (UDP) that will give an error when you try to edit them.
Not handling some non-English regional settings. For example comma used as a separator instead of a decimal will result in improper setting of User Defined Property values or may result in an error.
Not handling some Date property mappings when client and server are in different time zones.
Search not working properly after migration on a replicated site.
Mapping an AutoCAD Electrical reference designator with a UDP (reference designator) will block items from being assigned or updated.
CAD Add-in lock icon is not appearing immediately after changing the state to Released. A Refresh is needed to show the Lock icon.
Vault Professional client slow to complete during some assign item operations.
DWFs Ownership is not transferred with parent if the relationship with the parent has been broken.
Items lost from the Item Master view after ownership transfer and Item edit operation.
Migration Error from V2010 to V2011 when duplicate records are in the database.
Datasets with user-defined list type file properties containing NULL valueID's will not migrate to Vault 2011.
Access to non-revision based history to view and download previous versions.
Build-to-build migration is not running on the knowledge vault master.
Build-to-build migration operation on the publisher in a replicated environment may remove database triggers necessary for proper ownership control.
Incremental backup not backing up files with same ID's as files in another vault.
Wrong item type after item assign if the file extension is upper case.
There may be some slower performance detected on Windows 7.
Content Center part is not copied to subscriber site except during initial replication.

As part of our ongoing efforts to better integrate the Autodesk® Moldflow® products with Inventor and Digital Prototyping workflows, we are pleased to announce the technology preview of a Moldflow AIRLook User Interface on Autodesk Labs.

Integration & Ease of Use

A key goal of AIRLook is to improve the multi-product user experience and facilitate easier migration among Autodesk products. Similar to the Ribbon-style interface of Autodesk® Inventor® 2010, the AIRLook User Interface (UI) provides an intuitive, easy-to-use and task-oriented workflow, both of which combine to improve the overall productivity of the user.

Previews of the updated UI are being made available on Autodesk Labs to solicit feedback from our users and will be available in the following products:

- Autodesk Moldflow Adviser
- Autodesk Moldflow Insight
- Autodesk Moldflow Communicator

With this new UI users can find their favorite tools and commands faster, locate lesser-used tools more efficiently, and discover relevant new features more easily. The result is less time spent searching through menus and toolbars, and more time getting their job done.

If you are the proud owner of an iPhone or Touch, this will be a must have for its impressive sketch tools. This is a professional-grade paint and drawing application for a killer price of 2.99 on the iTunes Store. I personally have been looking forward to something like this on my Touch for some time and will be downloading it as soon as it goes live. Hvad er der med I År som der ikke var sidste år?

Mange AutCAD Electrical kunder modtager færdige content databasser fra deres leverandører af El komponenter. De fleste af disse leverandører har lavet deres databasser til PCschematic. Nogle af vores AutoCAD Electrical kunder har også selv skabt Komponent databasser til PC schematic. I Release 2010 af vores Locailizer har vi skabt et værktøj som gør det muligt at impoterer sådan en databasse. Det betyder at vores kunder har mulighed for at anvende det content de måtte ønske.
Sidste år gjorde vi det muligt at importerer projekter fra PCschematic og El Procad, det var kunderne naturligvis meget glade for. Men vi fik den feedback at det importerede data skulle fungerer som om det var skabt i AutoCAD Electrical og ikke som det var skabt i AutoCAD. I år har vi udviklet vores import funktion til også at omfatte dette ønske.

I Inventor 2010 har noen brukere hatt litt problemer at programmet krasjer ved bruk av spacemouse fra 3dconnexion. Dette har vært et driver problem, dette er nå fikset i en ny versjon av driveren som kan lastes ned fra 3Dconnexions.

Det har kommet ny Inventor add-in som er veldig nyttig. Det man får mulighet til med denne add-in er at f.eks. hull som lages i modellen får det samme navnet i modell browsere. Hent add-in som er laget av Allen Gager her.

Autodesk har kommet med en hotfix for Printer og Measure knapper i Vault 2010.

Disse verktøyen var i utgangspunktet tatt bort for at det skulle være større plass til bare å se på filen, men siden mange brukere har savnet disse knappene har det kommet en hotfix for å få dem tilbake.
